Hanging scales are suspended weighing scales used to weigh light to medium capacity suspended loads. Hanging scales can be supplied either with a bottom hook or with an “egg scoop” (a curved platter that can hold product as it is being weighed.
Most hanging scales are still mechanical scales with a dial (or clock face), although some hanging scales do have a digital weight display.
Hanging scales are typically inexpensive scales, especially non-trade hanging scales. Non-trade means that the scales should not be used to buy or sell product based on the weight reading, that is, to perform a legal transaction. Their design has not been approved for trade use by the National Measurement Institue (NMI) and they generally have only one face. Hanging scales used in a retail environment must have two faces, one each side of the display case.

hese days, you almost have to pack for a plane trip like you pack for backpacking. Go one pound over the normal 50 for your checked baggage on some airlines, and you can end up paying $100 or more. Geeez!
There are hanging scales out there in different ranges, but I wanted one that would go way past the 50, 70, and 100-pound airline weight panic points.
On vacation trips, I like to check one bag going over. Inside that bag is a small duffel I can use for the return trip — holding heavy items and dirty clothes. So this last trip to the UK I hung this scale from a hook and packed my suitcase according to weight. I stopped at 47.5 pounds on this scale and when I checked in at United, their scale said 48 pounds. That’s close enough for scale that’s not “legal for trade”.
Give yourself a little fudge factor, and you won’t have that pre-check-in anxiety…Or have to transfer your belongings between checked and carry-on with a bunch of angry people in line behind you.
